I just turned 65. Can I apply for Senior Freeze?

Q. I’ve been unable to contact anyone after about 30 phone calls. In September, I filed my ANCHOR application that is still processing, and now, today, I turned 65, so I wanted to apply for the Senior Freeze. What do I do? Can I file again? I know of 3 people who filed after me and already received their refunds.

A. There are a few things at play here.

First, on ANCHOR, which is available to both homeowners and renters who meet eligibility requirements.

The state has been sending out new benefits weekly. If yours says it’s processing, you probably just need to wait for your turn.

On Senior Freeze, your question is a little more complicated.

To receive the benefit, people 65 and over need to complete the PAS-1, which is a combined app for all the property tax benefits.

But for the 2024 Freeze — the current benefit year — you had to be 65 by Dec. 31, 2024. So happy birthday, but you wouldn’t qualify for next year.

So next year, be sure to complete the combined application — PAS-1 — which covers the Senior Freeze, ANCHOR and the new Stay NJ property tax benefits.
