I got an ANCHOR letter. Do I have to apply for Senior Freeze?

Q. I have a letter from the state of New Jersey about my ANCHOR rebate. They have all my information and I get that every year. Do I need to file for the Senior Freeze and the other tax breaks?

A. If you’re not sure, you should call the hotline at (888) 238-1233 or check the status of your benefit online.

You said you received a letter. We assume it said the state will file your benefit automatically. And that’s great.

But the state said specifically that it will not automatically file the new PAS-1 application — which covers Stay NJ, the Senior Freeze and ANCHOR benefits — for residents who are age 65 and older or those who receive Social Security disability payments.

The notification letters only cover ANCHOR for non-seniors. So if you are also eligible for the Senior Freeze, you want to make sure the correct — and complete — application has been filed.
