I got my 2020 ANCHOR but not for 2019. Is it too late?

Q. I just recently applied to ANCHOR and just received my check of $450 for the 2020 benefit year. I didn’t know about the benefit for 2019. Is it too late?
— Renter

A. Probably.

The 2019 tax year was the first year of the ANCHOR benefit, which replaced the Homestead Rebate.

That deadline is long gone.

You can still apply, but you should expect to get rejected. When you do, you have a chance to file an appeal.

But saying you didn’t know about it probably won’t be a good enough reason.

If you had medical issues, for example, that prevented you from applying, the state may still allow the benefit.

Good luck and let us know if you get approved.
