Q. For the Senior Freeze, a requirement is that you have to have your property taxes paid by June 1. Does this mean you must pay your taxes in full by June 1? Do people who have their taxes paid through their mortgage escrow not qualify because their taxes are paid quarterly by their mortgage company?

A. We took your question directly to the Division of Taxation.

It said the June 1 deadline is for the next calendar year after the original property taxes were due.

As an example, all 2023 property taxes must be paid in full by June 1, 2024, it said.

So what about escrowed property taxes?

“People who pay their property taxes through their mortgage escrow, as long as the taxes are timely paid and in full by June 1, are entitled to apply,” the state said.
