I received the wrong ANCHOR amount. What to do?

Q. I received the wrong amount on my ANCHOR check. I received $1,550 and should be $1,750. I’m on a fixed income that hasn’t changed from last year. Can you help me get in touch with someone?
— Taxpayer

A. You said you should get the higher amount.

Not this year.

The maximum payment for a senior homeowner for ANCHOR this year is $1,500. That’s because the Legislature, when it funded ANCHOR in the budget that passed in July, cut the $250 senior homeowner bonus.

It kept the bonus for senior renters.

As for that extra $50 you received is from an extra tax credit, and if a taxpayer doesn’t have to file a return, the state includes it with the ANCHOR payment.

So we think what you received is correct.
