Q. When reading your column, I thought it said that if I qualified for the $6,500 and already received 2 checks of $1,625 already, I still will get an additional $1,625 (total $4,875) in August/November even if I no longer qualify going forward due to income over $200,000?

A. Yes.

The benefit you’re getting now is for the 2024 tax year.

Lawmakers lowered what you’ll get for the last two Stay NJ payments — exactly as you calculated it — and they also changed the eligibility for the next benefit, which is for the 2025 tax year.

When they lowered the amount people will get for the last two payments for 2024’s Stay NJ, they did not change the eligibility — the did not retroactively kick people off the list — for that tax year.

But for 2025, if your income is higher than $200,000, you will be ineligible.
