12 Jul Why can’t we sign up for a Trump account?

Q. I have read through the booklet for property tax benefits but would like clarification of income.
My granddaughter had a child in 2026. She has a Social Security number for the child. She’s been trying to sign up for a Trump account but she keeps getting declined because she’s told something isn’t in the IRS’ system. What’s happening?

A. Congrats on your new grandbaby!

Lots of people have made the same complaint on online chat boards.

They’ve said their application was rejected because they didn’t present an IRS Form 4547, which is the form you have to submit to establish the account.

People have said that they’ve encountered delays in having the accounts established and funded with the $1,000 deposit that’s available for eligible children born between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2028, who are U.S. citizens with a valid Social Security number.

She should make sure she completes that form.

There’s also speculation that Social Security simply may not have transferred all the data about newly issued Social Security numbers yet to the IRS, but we haven’t been able to confirm that.
