A. Good news.
The state Treasury Department said late last week it was starting to mail out the checks for the second installment of the Stay NJ benefit.
It also said this quarterly payment is higher on average than the first one. Checks averaged $645.58, up from the first payment’s average of $600.
Homeowners who earn $500,000 or less and who are 65 or older by Dec. 31 of the benefit year, which for this round is 2024, may be eligible.
To calculate your benefit, first add together your ANCHOR and Senior Freeze benefits. If that amount is less than $6,500 or 50% of your property tax bill, you will get extra quarterly payments under the Stay NJ name.
It’s still unknown whether the benefit and eligibility cutoff will be lowered next year. That will be decided as part of the state budget, which is due July 1.
You can still apply for the next benefit year now on the state’s website.
