Q. Should I stop putting outgoing mail in my mailbox, even if it’s on the day when it will be picked up?
— Concerned

A. It’s a great question.

Leaving your outgoing mail in your mailbox to get picked up from your carrier is convenient, but it is a risk.

Anyone could in theory come and steal your mail.

Should you stop? That’s hard to say. If you can’t get to a post office, which is the most secure way to send mail, or secondarily, to a blue postal mailbox, you may not have a choice.

We’d recommend you consider using online bill paying services from your bank so you can avoid mailing checks when you can.
