Scammers can be creative, and your mailbox may be a new target. One New Jersey couple learned that the hard way after they realized a scammer changed their address with the postal service and took over their debit card account. The scammer splurged, charging $9,000, before the couple noticed. The result was a long process to get their bank, Chase, to acknowledge the theft and return their money.

The couple’s experience was profiled in a Bamboozled column on NJ.com, which explained how the fraud was perpetrated and how you can protect yourself from scammers and their new and refined methods.
