Q. Am I supposed to receive something in the mail for the New Jersey Homestead Rebate? Or do I fill out the form online and where do I mail it to?

A. You’ve got some catching up to do when it comes to property tax benefits in New Jersey.

The Homestead Rebate is no more. It was replaced by the ANCHOR benefit starting with the 2019 benefit year, which is the benefit paid out earlier this year.

Right now, the state is accepting applications for the 2020 tax year benefit, and it’s already sending out payments to eligible homeowners.

The ANCHOR has a $250 higher benefit from the year before for those who are 65 and older.

Homeowners who are 65 or older and earn $150,000 or less will receive $1,750. Those over age 65 who earn between $150,001 and $250,000 will receive $1,250.

Homeowners under the age of 65 who earn $150,000 or less will receive $1,500. Those who earn between $150,001 and $250,000 will receive $1,000.

Renters who are age 65 or older and earn $150,000 or less will receive $700. Those under 65 who earn $150,000 or less will receive $450.

The deadline for ANCHOR applications is Dec. 29.

You can apply online here, though some people do need to file a paper application.

The ANCHOR Hotline number is (888) 238-1233.
