I still don’t have ANCHOR. What can I do?

Q. I applied for the ANCHOR payment last year and I still haven’t gotten it. I can’t get through on the phone. What can I do?

A. We know there’s been a lot of frustration among taxpayers who have tried to get through to the ANCHOR hotline.

A recent report by NJ Advance Media found that some 30,000 homeowners and renters were still waiting to receive their payments.

It also found that it’s not easy to get through to the hotline.

But more than half of callers since January received a message saying their calls couldn’t be answered because of high call volume, and fewer than 9% of callers reached a live representative, even though the number of representatives working the hotline has doubled since January, the news organization found.

The state Division of Taxation said those who are still waiting for their payments should first use the website to check their application’s status, which is updated weekly.

“If the status says `pending’ that means that Taxation is currently processing and data matching wherever possible to fill in missing or insufficient data,” it said.
