Q. My taxes are too high. Where is my 2019 Homestead Rebate?
— Taxpayer

A. We’ve got some news for you.

The 2019 Homestead Rebate was replaced by the 2019 ANCHOR benefit.

It pays up to $1,500 for homeowners and $450 for renters.

If you didn’t apply but should have, contact the Treasury Department.

“People who would have been eligible but missed the ANCHOR deadline due to extenuating circumstances are not prevented from filing the 2019 application,” state Treasury spokeswoman Melinda Caliendo said. “Once they do so, they will receive a denial letter with instructions on appealing the decision.”

If you applied and didn’t receive a payment by May 3, you can check the status online or call (888) 238-1233.

Gov. Phil Murphy asked for $2 billion to fund ANCHOR for the 2020 year, but the budget hasn’t been finalized yet. A final plan must be in place by the end of June.
