Q. Can you use an air horn on your phone legally when you get a call from a scammer?
— Tired of scammers

A. We’ve never received that question before, though we certainly have heard of people using air horns, whistles and other loud noisemakers as retribution against scam callers.

We are not attorneys here, but we’ve never heard of any such law. Though if one exists, it would probably be on a state level. There could in theory be a local ordinance covering such behavior, but we’ve never heard of one.

We’re not going to judge whether you choose to air horn any scam callers, but we’ll note it’s usually better not to answer scam calls if you’re able to recognize it’s iffy by the Caller ID. If you answer the line, any robocalling technology will recognize your phone number as active, and you could end up on more calling lists.
