Q. I already filed my tax return. How long will I have to wait to get my money?

A. There are basic expectations on when your refund will arrive, but it will also depend on the specifics of your situation.

The IRS said it usually takes up to 21 days for the IRS to process your refund if you e-filed. Then if you signed up for direct deposit, the payment will be fast, but if you signed up to have a check mailed to you, it will take a bit longer.

Amended returns and tax returns sent to the agency by mail can take up to four weeks or more, it said.

It also said if your return needs corrections or extra review, it could take more time.

There are also extra delays anticipated for those who took the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC).

If you receive direct deposit or get your refund on a debit card, it should come by Feb. 27, the IRS said.

Check the IRS Where’s my refund? tool or the Where’s My Amended Return? tool for updates.

Filers who take the EITC or ACTC won’t see updates about payment dates on the tools until Feb. 17, the IRS said.
