Q. Do we have to file an application for ANCHOR every year? Or does it automatically renew when there are no changes?

A. You have to complete the application each year, at least for now.

Senior homeowners would complete the PAS-1, while renters and non-senior homeowners would complete ANC-1.

This is partly because your income level could change every year, affecting your eligibility for benefits. The state also wants to make sure there are no fraudulent applications.

But at some point in the future, the state could send letters to some people, saying it would file for them automatically.

For now, though, be sure to complete the applications so you don’t miss out on the benefit.
