24 Apr What’s the $10 fee on my electric bill?
Photo: pixabay.comQ. I am writing to express my concern regarding a $10 service fee that has appeared on my PSE&G bills for the past several months. I researched and saw it appears to be a payment related to a credit, but I never heard about this before. What gives?

A. New Jersey customers received credits that were approved last year when electric bills were spiking.
There were two separate programs, and only one was a real credit.
That’s why it was confusing.
First, in August 2025, the Board of Public Utilities approved a $100 credit that would reduce energy bills, first with a $50 credit in September 2025 and then another $50 in October 2025. These were true credits and did not need to be paid off.
But before that, in June 2025, it approved a program that would give customers a $30 credit in both July 2025 and August 2025 — months when temperatures are highest and demand is, too.
But that credit was not a real credit. It was really a deferral so people wouldn’t get too slammed that summer. People had to repay the funds, and it was done using $10 monthly charges from September through February.
So you should no longer be seeing that charge.
If you don’t think it was part of the credit repayment, you should call PSE&G to clarify what it’s for. And if you’re still confused after that, please email us at .
