I’m not getting a Stay NJ benefit. Why?

Q. I received a letter from the Treasury Department detailing my property tax benefits and it says I will get nothing from Stay NJ. Why? I’m 82 years old and I’m a homeowner.
— Confused

A. Not every homeowner will get a Stay NJ benefit.

It was created to work alongside ANCHOR and the Senior Freeze. You can be eligible for those but lose out on an additional payment under the Stay NJ name.

Assuming you qualify income wise, the total benefit is 50% of your tax bill up to $6500.

So if you add together your ANCHOR and your Senior Freeze and it is 50% of your tax bill, you would not get an additional payment.

Payments under Stay NJ should go out in February, the Treasury Department said.
