A. With the new Stay NJ benefit — which doesn’t apply to renters — the entire application process has changed.
For renters, the state said it will file on behalf of “most” eligible renters based on information in their 2021 application.
Those people will receive a letter from the Treasury Department explaining that they have filed for you. The letters should go out around Aug. 13, the state said.
“If you receive a letter and need to change your banking information, or prefer to request a paper check, then you will have to file your own application by August 31, 2025,” the state website said.
If you do not receive the letter, you’ll have to file on your own online. That portal should open mid-August, the state said.
It also alerts people of a new change for 2025.
“We will not be sending out mailers with ID/PIN information to file your application. Instead, all applicants must verify their identity through ID.me while using our online web application,” it said.
