I got ANCHOR previously. Why do I have to apply again?

Q. I received the ANCHOR benefit for 2019 and 2020, but this year I was told I have to apply again for 2021. Why?
— Taxpayer

A. The Treasury Department is taking additional steps to protect taxpayer money — the ANCHOR benefit — from fraud.

For some people, even if they have received the benefit before, the agency is requiring an additional identity verification. That will happen when you file the 2021 benefit and go through the ID.me process.

The state’s website will take you through every step of the process when you sign in to apply for your 2021 benefit.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 30.
