Q. Did I miss the ANCHOR filing deadline?
— Homeowner

A. There are several important deadlines for the ANCHOR property tax benefit.

The deadline to file a new application is Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024.

But Sunday, Sept. 15, was the deadline to change your banking information if you had already filed for the benefit or if you had received a notification letter saying the state was filing your benefit automatically for you.

If you didn’t make the change with the state, your old bank account will bounce the payment back to the Treasury Department.

“If a taxpayer enters the wrong banking information, the Division of Taxation is not responsible for the lost refund,” the agency told NJ Advance Media. “If the account was closed, it will bounce back and a check will be issued.”

You would have had to log in to the state’s ANCHOR filing system to file a new application to make the change.

Hopefully, all your information is correct and you get the benefit in a timely manner.

The state said most residents will get their payments about 90 days after they file. But if your bank information was incorrect, you can expect it to take a little longer.

The ANCHOR hotline is (888) 238-1233 or (609) 826-4282.
