The process to transfer title of a gifted car is the same as any other title transfer. You can find the step-by-step process on the Motor Vehicle Commission’s website.

But the important part of the transfer being a gift is that there is no sales tax due on the transaction.

To claim the exemption, on the back of the title where it asks for the purchase price, you should write “gift.”
