Can disabled persons get the Stay NJ benefit?

Q. I am wondering if permanent disabled New Jersey residents who qualify for Senior Freeze will also be able to participate in Stay NJ?
— Asking

A. It doesn’t appear so.

The Stay NJ tax break would cut property taxes up to 50%, capped at $6,500, for homeowners who are 65 and older who earn less than $500,000 a year.

The law didn’t specifically say disabled persons were included in the property tax break, which won’t kick in until 2026 and will need to be funded in the budget that will be negotiated next summer.
