Q. When will applications be mailed for the next ANCHOR benefit?
— Homeowner

A. The ANCHOR benefit replaced the Homestead Rebate.

The first benefit year was for 2019, and the 2020 benefit is the most recent one that was paid.

The 2021 benefit year would be next, but first, it needs to be funded as part of the state budget, which is due by July 1.

We expect the application process will be the same as the last benefit year. The Treasury Department will probably send letters in August to people whose benefits will be paid automatically based on the information is has about your eligibility. For those who don’t receive letters and need to apply, we expect the process to start in the late summer.

To apply, you’ll have to go online to complete the application, or you will be able to print it and mail it. We recommend filing online, though, because payments will be processed faster that way.

We will keep an eye on the application’s opening and other deadlines, so stay tuned.
