Q. I know about the IRS tool that gives updates on your federal tax refund. But what about New Jersey and my state taxes?
— Eager

A. Great question.

News of the IRS Where’s my refund? tool has gotten around.

New Jersey offers a similar tool.

The state’s Where is my refund? tool can be found here.

You can also call (800) 323-4400 to use the state’s automated voice response refund system.

New Jersey says updates to the system should show up about four weeks after you e-file your return to at least 12 weeks if you filed by paper, and even longer if you sent your return by certified mail.

It will take longer if you took the New Jersey Earned Income Tax Credit (NJEITC) “because these claims require additional review,” the state said.
