A. Welcome to New Jersey.

We’re afraid, though, you don’t qualify yet.

The benefit that’s going to be paid out this fall is for the 2020 tax year. It will go to people who were living here, and otherwise qualify, as of Oct. 1, 2020.

We don’t yet know for sure what the deadline will be for the 2021 benefit, and in fact, it’s not a sure thing. It will have to be passed by the Legislature with the next state budget.

But assuming it is funded and the deadlines remain the same, since you would have been in New Jersey before Oct. 1, 2021, you will have been here in time for the benefit.
