Many families choose to plan ahead when it comes to a final resting place. They purchase cemetery plots ahead of time, sometimes years or decades before there’s a need.
But people often change their minds. So what happens to unused cemetery plots?
That’s what one New Jersey reader asked NJ.com’s Bamboozled column after he was told by a Catholic cemetery that he couldn’t sell back or donate plots that were purchased by his elder family members. The reader had decided he and his wife would be buried elsewhere and he had no other heirs, so he wanted to learn if the cemetery could eventually take them over and resell for its own benefit.
So can it? Take a look.
