Should stores be open on Thanksgiving?
That’s always a hot debate in the days leading up to the holiday. Retailers want to get a jump on Black Friday sales, but many retail workers aren’t crazy about working when they could be spending the day with family.
State senator Richard Codey (D-Essex) is getting in on the debate, and The Star-Ledger reports he’s working on new legislation that would stop stores from opening before 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
“The public is overwhelmingly saying enough is enough,” Codey said in the story. “I think a 9 p.m. opening is more than fair.”
