Q. I got two text messages in one day saying I owe E-ZPass violations . How do I know if they are real?

A. We hope you didn’t click any links.

All of these texts about unpaid tolls and violations are scams.

Texts claiming to be from E-Z Pass, other state toll agencies and the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) have become a growing problem.

The messages usually say you owe a toll and a violation fee, or that you have a traffic ticket. And they say your license and registration will be suspended if you don’t pay.

But MVC and E-ZPass don’t send messages to collect payments.

Just delete the messages. Ignore then. Don’t click.
