Will I get the $50 property tax credit with my ANCHOR payment?

Q. My ANCHOR check was deposited on Sept. 16 in the amount of $1750. I filled out the two 1040 HW forms at the same time. Do you know when they will be sent out? I thought they might be included with the ANCHOR.

A. Let’s get everyone up to speed.

Homeowners and renters who meet certain eligibility requirements would receive a $50 “Property Tax Credit.”

The majority of those who are eligible — people who are 65 and over or disabled and who earn under a certain limit — get the funds when they file their New Jersey income tax return.

But taxpayers who are not required to file an income tax return have received it as an added $50 on their ANCHOR payment.

But now that the state changed the benefit year for ANCHOR to 2024, those who did not file tax returns needed to file the NJ-1040-HW form to get the $50 for the 2022 and 2023 tax years.

Those payments, though, won’t be tacked onto your ANCHOR benefit, the Treasury Department said.

“For those who file the 2022 and/or 2023 NJ-1040-HW, the $50 property tax credit will be issued independently as an income tax refund, not included in the 2024 ANCHOR benefit,” a spokesman told us.

So you should expect a separate payment for the benefit.
