Newly-elected Rep. Tom MacArthur understands that Social Security and Medicare are promises to be kept.

AARP recently held a forum featuring the Congressman for CD-3, Representative Tom MacArthur as our guest. The forum—a town hall meeting, teleconference, and social media event hybrid of sorts—allowed attendees, listeners, and participants on the AARP NJ Facebook page, a chance to ask their Congressional representative important questions.

While Congressman MacArthur’s priorities lay with the armed services and national resources, Social Security and Medicare are very clearly on his radar too. His commitment to this issue were clear when he said “Social Security is a promise that must be kept; people have earned those benefits, and it’s incumbent on the federal government to make sure that we pay them.” Considering how many senior citizens rely on Social Security benefits alone, Congressman MacArthur’s stance on this issue is a welcomed one.

Social Security and Medicare is a non-partisan issue. And let us work together to support our representatives’ efforts to preserve and strengthen Social Security and Medicare.
