Senior foils sweepstakes scam

A Belleville woman, 89, was thrilled to hear she won a $700,000 sweepstakes prize. This news came from a very credible-sounding voicemail, which referred her to another unknown number for more details on the prize.

All she had to do was send money to cover a “background check” needed to be sure she was the appropriate winner.

It was all too good to be true. The woman’s family members stepped and showed their mom it was a fraud.
