How to find an attorney

Q. How can I look for an attorney? I have a possible case of an illegal mortgage.
— Need help!

A. There are lots of ways you can search for an attorney.

You should start with your friends and family to see if they have any recommendations. If they do, great. But make sure the attorney specializes in cases like the one you’re talking about.

If the attorney doesn’t have experience in that area, ask the attorney for recommendations.

If people you know can’t recommend anyone, you should try the Lawyer Referral and Information Service offered by your local county America Bar Association chapter, said Ron LeVine, a Hackensack-based attorney.

“They offer a half hour consultation for a $30 fee with a local attorney experienced in the field,” LeVine said.
