If you have not met with a Financial Planner before, perhaps it’s been one of the following reasons:

• I don’t have a large enough portfolio
• I can’t afford one
• I don’t know how to begin to ask questions

You’re not alone, but the reasons are also unfounded. If you plan on making money, and better yet, keeping your money, a Financial Planner is a key player in a smart financial strategy. As for “I can’t afford one,” Financial Planning Day in Elizabeth on Saturday, November 14 is a FREE event. It puts you across the table, one-on-one if you’d prefer, with professionals who help clients everyday with questions about money.

The Financial Planning Association of New Jersey (FPANJ) is teaming up with the Financial Planner Board of Standards, the Foundation for Financial Planning, and the US Conference of Mayors at Trinitas Center of Regional Education (CORE), 1164 Elizabeth Avenue, from 10 am to 2 pm. This free public event is part of FPANJ’s mission to promote financial literacy, which is vital to everyone, no matter the size of their financial portfolio.

The event has grown over the past couple of years, and Certified Financial Planner Milind Shah, FPANJ organizer, says they hope to repeat and exceed the success of past events. The goal is to assist those in need of financial guidance, and those who attend come prepared.

“We were thrilled at the response last year – I met with one woman who came in with some documents related to a car lease,” Shah said.  “While she didn’t have many questions, the answers we could give her and the help in understanding the language in the document had her very relieved.

“For me, it’s satisfying when people seek out our expertise, and that’s what events like these are all about. They help underscore our value and elevate our profession as service providers. We are here to help direct people, clarify things for them and empower them to understand and manage their finances,” he said.
